Benefits of Dental Implants
Newport Beach, CA
Dental implants are one available dental procedure that we can use as an alternative to dental restorations, such as traditional dental bridges or dentures. This procedure is a bit more complex and costly compared to others, but there are many advantages that dental implants have over other dental restoration techniques.
For example, they look wonderful, feel and function more naturally, have numerous uses, have a long lifespan, and assist with maintaining good oral hygiene. You can receive dental implants at Enamel General and Cosmetic Dentistry.
Traditional restorations may be more noticeable because of wire frameworks and clips that attach to the other teeth. You may also notice the dental cement that attaches these restorations to your natural teeth. However, dental implants are covered up by dental crowns, dental bridges, or dentures so that they have a much better look.
With tooth loss comes loss of function in the mouth. This may be mild or incredibly noticeable by you and others. Some activities which can be affected by tooth loss are eating and speaking. Dental implants have a more natural feel than traditional dental restorations, so the artificial tooth will function more naturally as a result. You will be more comfortable in your daily activities and not even think about the implants.
Dental implants can be used for a variety of dental restorations. For instance, these are great in supporting bridges and crowns so that we do not need to cement them to your natural teeth. These can also be used for a full set of dentures as well, so you will not have to worry about storing them or dealing with adhesives.
We work with two different styles of dental implants as well and we can use a variety of techniques to prepare your jawbone for the dental implant surgery. This is done to make implants available for almost all of our patients. The two types are endosteal, which go into the jawbone, and subperiosteal, which do not penetrate the jawbone.
The implants, themselves, will be a permanent structure. However, they can still support both fixed and removable dental restorations. For instance, dentures can be cemented permanently to implants or they can simply clip to them so that they can be removed at any time.
The process for placing dental implants can take a while. Implants require several months of healing before restorations can be placed. That said, it is worth the wait because implants can last for many years. These titanium, screw-like structures are resistant to damage and general wear and tear. You can expect them to last at least 10 to 15 years.
Dental implants help to maintain your mouth’s proper structure. You will not have tooth shifting or tissue degeneration that you would experience with an open gap. Implants also do not require us to do any work on the surrounding teeth, unlike traditional restorations.
Removable restorations are easy to clean on a daily basis using soap and water or specialized cleaning solutions. Permanent structures are also easy to clean. They will be stable, and you are able to brush and floss like you would with natural teeth.
