What types of dental issues require emergency care?

There are a number of dental issues that can cause pain, discomfort, and swelling that require emergency care, including:

Cavities

Cavities stem from a bacterial infection that starts on the surface of the tooth and penetrates deeper, eventually reaching the tooth's nerve. When the nerve becomes infected, it starts hurting, and the tooth may need a root canal. The Enamel General and Cosmetic Dentistry staff know the best techniques to numb the pain so that you can be comfortable and worry-free throughout your procedure.

If you put off treating cavities, the bacterial infection can spread to the bone and cause swelling or an abscess, which is even more painful - and potentially life-threatening.

Jaw pain and tooth sensitivity

Did you wake up with pain in your jaw, or across multiple teeth? Are the teeth on one side of your mouth suddenly sensitive to cold drinks or ice cream?

This worries lots of people, but the staff at Enamel General and Cosmetic Dentistry can take X-rays and diagnose the problem right away. Usually, the problem is caused by grinding your teeth, or by a condition called temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ).

Chipped or broken teeth

If you've chipped or broken a tooth, you know the pain that comes along with it. It might even make you a bit self-conscious. The staff at Enamel General and Cosmetic Dentistry can see you the same day and perform the proper procedure, such as a tooth extraction and replacement so that you can get back to normal life.

What can you expect during an emergency appointment?

During an emergency appointment, the Enamel General and Cosmetic Dentistry staff provide a swift and comprehensive exam. In most cases, they take an X-ray of the affected area to diagnose the problem. They create a plan tailored to your condition to relieve your pain. Typically, treatment can begin the same day so that you can experience relief from tooth, gum, or jaw pain right away.
