Recovery Process Implants Length
Dentist Newport Beach, CA

Rendering of jaw with dental implant at Enamel General and Cosmetic Dentistry in Newport Beach, Ca. Have you been considering getting a dental implant but are uncertain about its long recovery time? Don’t be because you don’t necessarily have to wait for months for implant components recovery anymore. Thanks to the advancements in the world of dentistry, the treatment and the recovery time for dental implants can significantly be reduced for patients with good oral and overall health.

How Long Does Implant Recovery Take?

There’s no universal answer to this question because the dental implant recovery process depends on multiple factors. These include the type and number of implants one has received and the patient’s oral and general health, to name a few. Recovery for single implants is considerably faster than for multiple or full-mouth implants. Similarly, a patient with good oral and overall health will recover quicker than someone not in perfect health. Oral hygiene practices and certain habits can also affect the recovery process. Lastly, the type of implant one receives has a huge impact on the recovery process. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the type of implant can single-handedly make a huge difference in what your recovery process will look like and how long it will last.

How Can the Type of Implant Determine Recovery Process?

The type of implant you get makes a difference in how your recovery will look.

Traditional Implants

The traditional procedure is performed in two to three steps, several weeks apart, and can take anywhere between four to eight months to complete. In instances where patients need preparation procedures, such as extraction and bone grafting, dental implant procedures can even take up to a year to complete.

This can be overwhelming for many, but there are a few things that you should consider before reaching any conclusion. When we talk about recovery in traditional implants, osseointegration of the implant root into the jaw takes the most time. If you need an extraction before getting the implant, you will also have to wait a few weeks for the extraction site to heal. In cases where patients do not need any extra procedures, the active dental implant recovery takes an average of four weeks.

Same-Day Dental Implants

As the name tells, these are the implants that are completed within one day and have almost instantaneous recovery. You may experience a little pain or swelling after a while, but it can usually be managed with medications.

Same-day dental implants offer an excellent alternative to the traditional procedure that can take months to complete. However, not everyone makes a good candidate for them. Our experienced dentist Dr. Kabaklian can tell if you qualify for same-day implants. Call us at 949-991-2499 to schedule a consultation session with the doctor.
