Multiple Tooth Implants Newport Beach, CA
Losing teeth shouldn’t mean losing self-confidence and the ability to eat certain foods. That is what happens to many Americans when they lose their teeth due to trauma, periodontal disease or decay and replace them with traditional dentures. Although dentures can provide a natural-looking alternative for missing teeth, wearers often complain about difficulty eating, speaking, and even smiling while wearing them.
Overdentures are removable dentures for people with a few or no remaining teeth. They’re designed to fit over the top of a person’s tooth roots. They use roots as support anchors for the dentures to fit. These types of dentures are known as implant-supported overdentures; they use precise dental attachments to hold the denture in place and prevent it from slipping. For years, our team at Enamel General and Cosmetic Dentistry has used dental implants to provide patients with an alternative to traditional dentures that allow them to smile, speak, and eat with confidence. If you are seeking a solution to missing teeth, call our office for a consultation.
Overdentures Procedure
Getting implant-supported overdentures can be completed in one visit and begins with placing the dental implants. In the upper jaw, two to six implants are placed to achieve a secure fit. When it comes to the lower jaw, two implants may suffice, provided the patient’s bone height and shape of their jaw are favorable to support an overdenture.
If the patient is missing all of their teeth, an implant-supported overdenture can be made using as few as four or sometimes only two implants to hold the denture firmly to the patient’s upper or lower jaw and allow the patient’s mouth to look and function naturally. In this case, a crown is not necessary for each implant; a rubber gasket is placed into the denture. This rubber gasket then inserts over a special metal attachment, which is screwed into the implant’s top. This is commonly called a ball-and-socket connection.
Benefits of Overdentures
Overdentures are gaining more favorable attention over recent years. One of the differences between these and conventional dentures is that overdentures have attachments underneath them for better stability. These dental implants can provide the user with a durable way to keep the dentures in place.
Life expectancy is also another benefit of using overdentures. The care and attention required for maintaining overdentures is comparable to that of traditional dentures. One can save more with using overdentures than traditional dentures because of the strength of the materials used, the flexibility of the attachments, and the overall efficiency they can provide to the patient.
Are Overdentures Comfortable?
Implant overdentures present a more comfortable, healthy, and durable option than traditional dentures. The implants keep the denture secured in place, allowing the patient to converse with confidence, participate in normal social interactions, and even enjoy a diverse diet for optimal nutritional health.
Dental implants are becoming the standard way of replacing missing teeth. They are more comfortable and even last longer than traditional methods such as bridgework and dentures.
